you know that the biological father of a child born outside of marriage has no legal relationship to the child unless he marries the mother or brings a court case to establish that he is entitled to be the "legal" Father of the child? It comes as a great surprise to unmarried fathers when they have supported the child for years, and upon breaking up with the mother are denied any visitation or custody of the child. In order to become a legal parent, fathers must file "legitimation" actions. Because the Court does not have to allow a biological father the right to become the "legal" father, having competent counsel who will advocate for your rights is very important.
As the mother of a child, you too have a right to be supported during your pregnancy and your child deserves to be supported by both of his or her parents. For that reason, if you are not married to the child's father, you have the right to establish paternity of the child. This means that the Courts will order the father to take legal responsibility for paying his share of these costs.
Experienced counsel, such as Diane Marger Moore and the other lawyers of the Law Offices of Edwin Marger, LLC can guide you through these procedures and insure that the Child Support Work Sheets, Financial Affidavits, Parenting Plans and other technical legal documents are completed properly and presented to your best interest.
